June comes with a wide agenda to the Archaeological Museum of San Antón Castle and Elviña Castro, with different activities open to the public and whose registration will open on Wednesday, June 4. A moon observation session, the presentation of a music album, and activities for the European Archaeology Days are scheduled. «From the Government of Inés Rey, we continue promoting activities in our museums to bring all the work done in them closer to the public,» said Gonzalo Castro, Councilor for Culture and Tourism.
The first activity will be a moon observation session on Friday, June 6, from 19:00 to 22:00 at Elviña Castro. The Council collaborates, as in previous years, with the Astronomical Group Ío in an event called ‘On the Moon again,’ commemorating the landing of man on the Moon.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of that milestone, 1,350 events were held in 77 countries in 2019, a celebration that continues annually. It is a public outreach session where attendees can experience the observation of this satellite and learn more about planetary exploration in detail.
The Astronomical Group ÍO team will provide telescopes to the participants at an event that will take place on the lower esplanade of the Elviña Castro site. It is worth noting that attendance is free and does not require prior registration, but there will be limited capacity, respecting the order of arrival, and the development will be subject to weather conditions.
On the other hand, on Saturday, June 7, from 20:00 to 21:30, the presentation of the music album ‘Gardar a auga’ by Benxamín Otero will take place at San Antón Castle. Admission to the event will be free until full capacity is reached. In April 2023, musician Benxamín Otero spent several mornings in the cistern of the Castle, recording his own songs, which became ‘Gardar a Auga,’ the first album recorded in this space, and fully so.
It is a stark work where almost all the tracks are performed on the English horn or oboe, without any accompaniment, only the melodies, dressed by the acoustic characteristics of the place. Improvised music, melodies played in a time and space. Two years later, this musical work will be presented, in physical format, in the place where it was born. Benxamín Otero will perform some songs in the Castle’s Parade Ground.
European Archaeology Days
On the other hand, on June 14 and 15, the European Archaeology Days will be celebrated at San Antón Castle and Elviña Castro, with workshops for children and adults and guided tours of both sites.
The guided tours at San Antón Castle will be on Saturday at 12:00 and 18:00 and Sunday at 12:00. It will last one hour and 15 minutes. On the other hand, the visits to Elviña Castro will be on Saturday and Sunday at 12:00, with a duration of one and a half hours. There will be 25 spots in each session, and reservations can be made starting at 10:00 on Wednesday, June 4, at the phone number 981 18 98 50.

At San Antón Castle, ‘Coas mans no barro’ and ‘Rock Art’ will be held at 11:45 on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
