The City Council of Coruña celebrates this Sunday, June 15, the XXXVIII Day of Sport in the Street as the culmination of the activity of the Municipal Sports Schools in the 2024-2025 academic year. On this occasion, there will be a total of 93 participating entities and 63 sports disciplines, setting a record for this celebration. All activities will take place from 11:00 to 14:00 in the surroundings of the Riazor Sports City. Water sports will take place on the beaches of Riazor and Orzán. All activities are free and open to all ages. The event, promoted by the Government of Inés Rey, aims to promote the different sports disciplines practiced in the city, in a fun and participatory way, bringing the benefits of sports practice to the citizens.
The Day of Sport in the Street will feature 63 different sports disciplines this year, including athletics, basketball, badminton, boxing, gymnastics, climbing, Nordic walking, and chess. There will also be water sports such as sailing, canoeing, water polo, paddle surfing, and surfing, among many others. New activities this year include urban dance, pickleball, Basque pelota, and military pentathlon. In addition, there will be various activities led by specialized Termaria coaches with the following schedules: Body Balance at 11:00, Zumba at 12:00, and Salsation at 13:00.
Furthermore, this year’s event will feature six international parasurfers in the surf area at Orzán Beach, which is more suitable for these sports due to the quality of its waves. They will be led by Daniel Souto, a parasurfer from Coruña. Another highlighted activity this year will be the military pentathlon, which will have an adapted course. Additionally, there will be two workshops on CPR and water rescue.
This year, 93 sports clubs and entities in the city are joining the celebration of the Day of Sport, collaborating with the City Council of Coruña to showcase the different sports practices offered in the municipality, providing a wide and diverse sports program. In this way, the City Council continues to support the city’s sports sector, bringing its work to the citizens and promoting sports practice for all tastes and ages. The day will also include a release of pigeons (pigeon racing), which will take place at the stand in front of the Riazor Sports Palace at 13:00.
How to participate and gifts
Participation in the XXXVIII Day of Sport in the Street is free and does not require prior registration. On the day of the celebration, a participation card will be distributed at each of the sports activities or at the meeting point of the Sports Palace. Each card will have three markers to stamp, and one can be filled in for each activity carried out.
There will be 2,000 t-shirts that will be given to the first 2,000 people who have a stamp on their card. The t-shirts will be available to participants at the meeting point until 14:00.
Additionally, there will be a raffle of materials from collaborating entities, which will take place on the 15th at 13:45 on the stage located in the esplanade of the Sports Palace. All people who have deposited their cards stamped with three seals will participate. There will be different prizes for adults and children.
