The Civic Center of San Diego hosted a new participatory meeting this afternoon to discuss the future of the urban bus in Coruña. This corresponds to the third of the 11 neighborhood meetings that the Government of Inés Rey is launching as part of the study to define the new bus network.
The session began with the mayor’s presentation, who thanked the attendees for participating and highlighted sector 7 as the most populous: «It is one of the largest in terms of size and with the highest flow, as it goes from Marineda to Monelos, San Diego, and part of Oza,» the mayor pointed out.
The mayor participated in the meeting accompanied by councilors José Manuel Lage and Noemí Díaz. In total, around twenty people participated in the meeting, which included a presentation by the technical team conducting the urban transport study and a participatory dynamic where attendees could provide proposals on frequencies, routes, accessibility, intermodal connections, or territorial coverage.
Requests and Suggestions
District 7 has approximately 37,132 inhabitants and is served by 18 urban bus lines (1, 1A, 2, 2A, 4, 5, 12, 12A, 14, 17, 20, 21, 22, 23, 23A, 24, UDC) plus the BUH with a total of 107 stops.
During the meeting, the interest in the participatory process was evident, as 56% were from district 4. In addition, 80% of the attendees stated that they were there in a personal capacity, compared to 20% representing associative entities.
The survey also helped identify the most valued – and criticized – aspects by users of urban transport in Coruña. As in previous meetings, prices were the highest-rated element, with an average of 8.7 points. However, compared to other meetings, almost all aspects were rated above 5: accessibility (5.2), routes and stops (5.6), shelters (5.8), and service frequency (5.0). Intermodality was the lowest-rated aspect (3.8), the only one that did not reach half of the scale.
In this sense, the citizens identified the frequency and waiting time of buses as priority areas for improvement, selected by 29% of participants, followed by intermodality with other means of transport (21%) and accessibility (10%).
