Regarding a possible strike at the beginning of the school year, the conselleiro asserts that «everyone is responsible for their actions»
The conselleiro of Education, Science, Universities, and Vocational Training, Román Rodríguez, has framed the recent protests by teachers as a sign of the «dynamism and interest» of the collective, noting that «every end of the school year, as well as beginnings, tend to be moments of movement in the education system» and these demonstrations are «common», while also highlighting the efforts of the Xunta to «improve the education system» and the situation of teachers.
In statements to the media on Thursday, Rodríguez acknowledged that this improvement «cannot be achieved all at once», but he urged for a period of «reflection» and to observe how the situation was «not so long ago», as well as to have a «comparative vision with other regions».
BUREAUCRACY AND DIALOGUE
Responding to criticisms from teachers about bureaucracy, the Education minister pointed out that this is a «general» protest across Spain and blamed the Lomloe law, «introduced by the socialist government», for the increase in these types of procedures.
He also mentioned that the regional government has been «working for some time to reduce bureaucratic procedures» within the education process, something that was already included in the agreement signed with some unions last year, with measures aimed at reducing it.
He also explained that they are working on a plan to allow teachers to «do what they have to do: teach and be with the students.»
Addressing complaints about a lack of dialogue, Rodríguez emphasized that the unions have «many meetings with school directors», both formal and informal, highlighting that there is «a lot of dialogue and collaboration», even if there are «disagreements» at times.
STRIKE
On the other hand, after the CIG did not rule out a strike at the beginning of the next school year, the regional official appealed to waiting to see «how it evolves» and stated that «everyone is responsible for their actions.»
