El Día de la Ciencia en la Calle 2025 se celebrará el sábado 10 de mayo con la participación de mil personas.

On the next 10th of May, the Día da Ciencia na Rúa 2025 will be celebrated, an initiative organized by the City Council of A Coruña, Friends of the Casa das Ciencias Association, and the Emalcsa-UDC Chair. Additionally, the FECYT (Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology – Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities) and the Deputación of A Coruña are also collaborating in this event. Around a thousand students, scientists, and researchers will gather at Santa Margarita Park to offer the public a multitude of activities and experiences that connect science and technology with everyday life.

«This is one of the most special initiatives of the year for schools, and from Inés Rey’s Government, we want it to continue to be so, demonstrating the importance of scientific outreach from a young age,» says Gonzalo Castro, Councilor for Culture and Tourism. In this edition, 54 educational centers from A Coruña, Betanzos, Cambre, Carral, Arteixo, Cerceda, Culleredo, Coristanco, Oleiros, Ordes, Pontedeume, Outes, Ribadeo, Miño, Ortigueira, Baio, Ribeira, and Poio will participate. Among its numerous proposals are activities based on the latest technologies, such as facial recognition with Artificial Intelligence, the description of the heart using electronic textiles, smart greenhouses, an artificial satellite model, and numerous robotics applications. There will also be experiences that combine science with art or magic, optical illusions or sound, as well as surprising projects on cloud formation, the Solar System, rockets, or the observation of cells and microorganisms under a microscope. The extensive catalog of activities includes many related to current major themes, such as the climate crisis, environmental conservation, and sustainability.

Alongside students of all educational levels, professionals in research and outreach will also participate, presenting a diverse program of scientific content for the entire community at the stands of the Emalcsa-UDC Chair, the Faculty of Sciences of the UDC, the School of Civil Engineering of the University of A Coruña, the Interdisciplinary Center for Chemistry and Biology (CICA), the ICT Research Center (CITIC), the Technological Innovation Center in Building and Civil Engineering (CITEEC), the Scientific and Cultural Outreach Unit of the UDC, the Oceanographic Center of A Coruña, the Biomedical Research Institute of A Coruña (INIBIC), the Municipal Education Service of A Coruña, the Luzada association of the USC, the Mathematical Research and Technology Center of Galicia (CITMAga), or the Galician Agency for Organs and Blood.

There will also be numerous parallel activities around the Casa das Ciencias building offered by the Galician Chess Association-AGAX, the Io Coruña Astronomical Group, Bricolabs, Incude (Cultural and Sports University Initiatives), UDCiencia d+i, in addition to a concert by the Municipal Band of A Coruña at 12:00 p.m. and a scientific monologues show by Ciencia Calidade starting at 5:30 p.m.

Additionally, as a novelty in this edition, there will be a sustainable gastronomic market with 8 stalls installed in the entrance area of the park along Ronda de Nelle.

EduCO2Health Project

The Domus will be present at Santa Margarita Park with an Erasmus+ project, funded by the European Commission, called EduCO2Health, which includes a proposal for activities to learn about what the exposome is and what impact the environment leaves on our health. The exposome concept involves studying all the exposures accumulated by a person from conception to the end of their life, which includes not only external elements, such as diet, lifestyle, and the environment where we live and work, but also internal factors like metabolism, intestinal microbiota, inflammation, and oxidative stress.

The EduCO2Health project is led by the University of Santiago de Compostela and involves the participation of Domus and other partners from five different countries representing institutions with experience in the fields of genetics, science education, scientific communication, visual arts, bilingual education, and ecology.
