
The Councilor of Culture and Tourism, Gonzalo Castro, presented this morning a new edition of the international festival +QJazz, which will bring together numerous artists from July 1 to 8 in different spaces of the city. The councilor was accompanied by Pepe Doré, director of +QJazz. The presentation took place at the Teatro Colón, one of the venues of the event.
«From the Government of Inés Rey, we have been supporting this initiative for years because it brings together our unique outdoor spaces, the iconic Teatro Colón, and the concert halls, a fundamental pillar of culture in the city,» said Gonzalo Castro during the presentation. The +QJazz festival reaffirms its identity with an exquisite and eclectic program, including renowned figures of jazz, legends of Cuban music, masters of flamenco-jazz, and fresh proposals like European blues or Brazilian popular music.
Throughout a week, different emblematic spaces of the city such as Teatro Colón, Jazz Filloa, Garufa Club, or Sala Mardi Gras will become stages for a unique musical experience. Tickets for all events, except
On Tuesday, July 1, at Teatro Colón, the Champian Fulton Quartet will perform. A pianist and vocalist recognized by the international critics, Champian Fulton is one of the most prominent figures in current vocal jazz. Influenced by greats like Sarah Vaughan, Bud Powell, or Count Basie, her performance combines piano virtuosity with an elegant and expressive voice. With a wide discography and teaching experience, she will bring classic and sophisticated jazz to Galicia, opening the festival on an outdoor stage with historical charm.
On Wednesday, July 2, at Jazz Filloa, it will be the turn of Marcel Pascual Quinteto. From Barcelona, vibraphonist Marcel Pascual arrives with his proposal of contemporary jazz, where sound exploration, improvisation, and melodic delicacy converge. His latest work, Fluctuaciones, is a sample of his talent as a composer and performer. His performance at Filloa will be a unique opportunity to enjoy a formation of great technical quality and artistic sensitivity.
On Thursday, July 3, at Garufa Club, Carles Benavent Trío will perform. An authentic legend of flamenco jazz, Carles Benavent revolutionized the role of the electric bass in Spain. Known for his collaborations with Paco de Lucía, Miles Davis, or Chick Corea, his career is synonymous with innovation and virtuosity. His trio promises a night full of nuances and creative freedom in an intimate space that will enhance the connection with the audience.
Eliades Ochoa will be on Friday, July 4, at Teatro Colón. One of the great ambassadors of Cuban music, he was a founding member of the legendary Buena Vista Social Club. His voice and guitar brought iconic songs to life, such as Chan Chan, becoming a symbol of Cuba’s sound identity. With decades of career, multiple Latin Grammys, and an exemplary discography, his presence at the festival is one of the highlights of this edition.
On the other hand, Turma Caipira will be on Saturday, July 5, at Garufa Club. Formed in A Coruña in 2009, this band specializes in Brazilian popular music (MPB), with a repertoire that covers samba, bossa nova, baião, and other sound expressions of Brazil. With an intimate and elegant proposal, the voice of Marga Ramos is accompanied by versatile musicians like Samuel Pérez, Quique Alvarado, and Fran Castro, all with extensive experience in various styles.
On Sunday, July 6, it will be the turn of Quique Gómez & His Vipers at Sala Mardi Gras. They are considered one of the best blues and rhythm & blues bands in Europe and stand out for their stage presence and the authenticity of their sound. Gómez, a singer and harmonica virtuoso, has collaborated with great legends of American blues and has a solid international career.
Closing the cycle, Rick Estrin & The Nightcats will perform on Tuesday, July 8, at Azcárraga Square, with free admission. They are an American band awarded multiple times at the Blues Music Awards. Their style mixes traditional blues with swing, jump blues, and rockabilly, with an explosive and charismatic live performance. Rick Estrin, known for his ironic lyrics and theatrical interpretation, will be accompanied by guitarist Chris «Kid» Andersen and a powerful rhythm section that will leave an unforgettable mark on the Galician audience.
