During his visit, the head of education for the Galician government emphasized the «fundamental» role played by education in young generations, as they «will be» the guarantees of a more precise, equal, and respectful society. In the Galician education system, these values are dealt with from a comprehensive and multidisciplinary perspective. However, Román Rodríguez emphasized that, from the Ministry of Education, a series of specific programs are promoted for a more specific approach to the role of women in all areas, as is the case with Edurefettes, in which 20 centers in Galicia, including Ramón María Alllo Ullo, participate. Through this program, students first-hand experience the leadership of women in their sectors, making the figure of women visible in traditionally male-dominated positions.
On the other hand, in the current context where the ability to innovate is essential for the progress of society in all areas, Román Rodríguez also referred to the importance of promoting scientific-technological vocations among young people, especially among women.
To do this, the ministry has programs like Stemmbach or Science Club, which are becoming increasingly popular among students. In fact, 53 centers and 1,125 people registered in Stemmbach participate in Stemmbach, of which 54.4% are women. Additionally, in the Science Club, there are more women registered than men. More than 200 centers with 17,681 students participate, of which approximately 51% are women, figures that are increasingly dedicated to the training of women.
Román Rodríguez emphasized that precisely, the Aller Ulloa is a good example of this dynamic because it participates in the two programs with more registrations of girls than boys. In the case of Stemembach, there are 19 registrations, 12 of which are women and 7 men; While in the Science Club, there are 30 registrations, of which 18 are girls and 12 boys.
At the Center, the counselor learned about other student initiatives on the occasion of International Women’s Day, such as projects developed in the reading club around the book Memories of a Farmer Child by Neira Vilas, a video poem called Marquesiña, Castelao, the show of women in the diaspora, or the exhibition of a periodic table, among others.
