The last quarter of the 16th edition of the Poetas Di(n)versos cycle will bring voices from America, Asia, and Africa to A Coruña alongside Galician voices. Three new meetings with the best poetry in Galician and any other language in the world can be followed on a Monday per month at 8:00 p.m. at the Auditorium of the Ágora Sociocultural Center with free entry until capacity is reached. «The Government of Inés Rey promotes this cycle of such high quality, which brings the best of national and international poetry to the citizens and fills municipal spaces with activity,» says the Councilor for Culture and Tourism, Gonzalo Castro.
The sessions for this spring quarter will be on April 21, May 19, and June 23. The first, this Monday, April 21, will feature the presence of Alberto Blanco (Mexico) and Xosé Luís Mosquera Camba (Guísamo), two voices that share their experience and professional connection to the visual arts field. On the other hand, on May 19, it will be the turn of Subhro Bandopadhyay (India) and Natalia Alonso (Foz), with poetry that delicately addresses language whether in Galician or Bengali. Closing this 16th edition of the event will be David Odiase (Nigeria) and Lúa Mosquetera (Miño), two young voices, sometimes close to spoken word, who tell stories with anger or tenderness in their poems, trying to change stereotypes.
The Poetas Di(n)versos public readings cycle is founded and directed by the poet and cultural manager Yolanda Castaño – recognized last year with the National Poetry Prize – and is supported by the City Council of A Coruña. The cycle continues to be a unique reference in Spain for its regularity, diversity, and high literary quality. All readings will offer collectible brochures with the biographies and poems of the invited guests and will also be streamed.
Alberto Blanco and Xosé Luís Mosquera Camba
Alberto Blanco (Mexico City, 1951) is a writer, musician, and visual artist. Equally eclectic is his academic background, which combines studies in Chemistry and Oriental Studies specialized in the area of China.
His literary production includes over seventy works, encompassing poetry, essays (especially in the field of visual arts), and translation. As a poet, he has published over thirty titles in Mexico, and there are several anthologies that collect his work, including ‘Amanecer de los sentidos’ (1993).
Between his first book, ‘Giros de faros’ (1979), and the most recent, the new edition of ‘La hora y la neblina’ (2018), thirty years of impeccable trajectory have passed in which he has received prestigious awards such as the Carlos Pellicer Poetry Prize (1988) for ‘Cromos’ or the Xavier Villaurrutia Prize for the first volume of his poetry (comprising three books), ‘El canto y el vuelo.’
His work has been translated into more than twenty languages, and as a translator, he was recognized with the Afonso X the Wise Prize for excellence in literary translation, awarded by San Diego State University in 2002.
On the other hand, Xosé Luís Mosquera Camba (Guísamo, 1961) is a writer and visual artist who creates a symbolic-poetic language through collages. With a background in Art History, in which he obtained his doctorate in 2004, he teaches in public education and is one of the freest voices in Galician poetry, always hybrid between poetic and visual language.
His first published book was ‘A tensa calma da catapulta’ (2003). This was followed by ‘Nadja c’est moi,’ which received the Carral Poetry Prize in 2008, the year in which his poetry book ‘Amebas’ received the runner-up award of the prestigious Esquío de Poesía Prize. With the poetry book ‘Das árbores tropicais e do amor,’ he won the Carral Poetry Prize for the second time in 2018.
Following this book, titles such as ‘A traxedia da arquitectura’ and ‘Parhelio’ would come, both poetry books awarded in the same year, 2021, in contests of great relevance in the country, such as the Xosé María Díaz Castro and Fiz Vergara Vilariño Awards.
‘Trece maneiras de mirar un almanaque’ (2025) is his most recent poetry book and was the winner of the XXVII Johan Carballeira Poetry Prize. In 2007, he edited the poetry/collages hybrid ‘Biolencia’ in blog format.
