The Civic Center of Monelos hosted a new participatory meeting this afternoon on the future of urban buses in La Coruña, the fifth of the 11 meetings organized by the Government of Inés Rey as part of the study to define the new bus network.
The session began with the mayor’s presentation, who thanked the attendees for participating and highlighted district 7 as the most populous in La Coruña, with the most lines and stops.
In total, about fifty people participated in the meeting with the aim of collecting priority issues for the future of public transportation service. The mayor was accompanied by councilors José Manuel Lage, Noemí Díaz, Yoya Neira, and Diana Sobral.
In addition, the technical team of the urban transport study presented how the process is going and a participatory dynamic was carried out in which attendees could make proposals on frequencies, lines, accessibility, intermodal connections, or territorial coverage.
Requests and Suggestions
District 7 has approximately 60,748 inhabitants and is served by 18 urban bus lines (1, 1A, 2, 2A, 4, 5, 12, 12A, 14, 17, 20, 21, 22, 23, 23A, 24, UDC) plus the BUH with a total of 107 stops.
The survey conducted during the meeting identified the most valued – and also the most criticized – aspects by users of urban transportation in La Coruña. Nearly 80% of the attendees were from district 7, and 81% attended on a personal basis. In total, almost 64% of the attendees said they use the bus weekly, between 1 to 5 days.
As in previous meetings, fares were the best-rated element, with an average of 9 points, and almost all aspects were rated above 5, with accessibility (6.9) as the second best-rated aspect. This was followed by lines and stops (5.7), shelters (5.4), and service frequencies (5.1). Intermodality was the worst-rated aspect (4.6), as well as the only one that did not reach half of the scale.
In this regard, the citizens identified punctuality and frequencies (30%) along with accessibility (13%) and adaptation to massive events (12%) as priority areas for improvement.
