Lara Méndez criticizes that the Xunta «remains silent» in the face of the tariff crisis while other communities «are already implementing measures»
The parliamentary vice-spokesperson and secretary of Organization of the PSdeG, Lara Méndez, has described as «devastating» the balance of the first year of Alfonso Rueda at the helm of the Xunta after the regional elections of February 18, 2024.
In a press conference this Monday, Méndez has assessed the first year of Rueda as president of the Galician Government, summarizing it as «zero projects, zero management, and zero responses».
«It is not only that the PP Government has done nothing, what little it does, it does badly, and not just because we say it from the PSdeG, but also because every report from the Consello de Contas is a blow to the management of the PP,» argued the socialist representative before pointing out that it reminds her of «that great manager and moderate person that Feijóo was»: «A lot of smoke and little reality».
The socialist, who began her intervention by sending «republican greetings» on this April 14, lamented that «people’s problems continue to worsen,» while Rueda «thinks about his public image and controlling the public media through the new law.»
In this context, she highlighted the «concerning» lack of political leadership at a time when «a step forward is needed» and Rueda «hides his head.»
TARIFFS: «BAD AND LATE»
In this vein, Lara Méndez also criticized that the Xunta «remains silent» in a situation like the tariff crisis and continues «without giving a response.» «Galicia deserves more than a president obedient to Génova,» she emphasized.
Meanwhile, she added, other communities «are already implementing complementary measures to cope» while Galicia «delays the process.»
On this matter, she recalled that the general secretary of the PSdeG, José Ramón Gómez Besteiro, already sent a letter to Rueda offering «solutions» on a topic that could affect many economic sectors in Galicia, but, she stated, «the PP rejects.» «They neither lead nor have political foresight,» she reproached.
In this regard, questioned about the meeting scheduled this Monday between various representatives of the regional government and leaders of the clusters and sectoral associations affected by the US tariffs, Lara Méndez insisted that it is «late,» arguing that the socialists «would have listened to the sectors much earlier.»
«We do not know if there will be concrete measures that should already be on the table, as other communities have done. A threat that can affect very negatively different sectors. Postponing solutions is not a good measure. From the PSdeG, we would have already met with the sector and sought solutions to this uncertain situation,» she asserted.
On the contrary, she argued that the socialists «are on the streets, in the municipalities, in the Parliament…». «We do not look the other way. While the PP sleeps, we propose; while others make partisan calculations, we put the interests of Galicia first,» she pointed out.
Thus, Méndez asked the PP «to stop demagoguery and populism» and to address «the needs of the Galicians.»
