The mayor, Inés Rey, highlighted today the journey and evolution of the Agrela industrial estate, which today celebrated the events scheduled for the third renewal of the Quality Business Park brand, awarded by the Spanish Coordinator of Business Parks «and certifying that the economic activity in Agrela is of high value, not only for the city, but for the entire metropolitan area, due to the wealth it generates.»
During this morning’s session, organized by the Agrela Business Owners Association, Rey pointed out that Agrela – with over 60 years of history – has more than 550 companies and provides direct employment to over 20,000 workers, «being a fundamental pillar for the economic fabric of A Coruña, vital for the creation and maintenance of jobs.»
The renewal of the brand was made visible at 11:30 a.m., with the symbolic hoisting of the flag of the Agrela business park at the Eduardo Diz roundabout, at the entrance to the industrial estate.
In addition to the mayor, the events this Monday were attended by the vice president of the Agrela Business Owners Association, Joan Vidal; the manager of the Association, Teresa Fírvida; the Government Delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco; and the Finance Minister of the Xunta, Miguel Corgos.
Mobility to the industrial estate, key in the future plans of the Council
One of the main issues that the Council will delve into in the coming months regarding Agrela is the mobility to and from the industrial estate, where thousands of people, in addition to workers, transit daily. In many cases, heavy-duty vehicles also circulate.
Inés Rey emphasized the importance of expanding the range of options available to facilitate work commutes to Agrela. On the table is the creation of two new stations for the BiciCoruña municipal service, as part of its new phase of expansion, but also the reinforcement of the connection to the industrial estate in the context of the future urban bus transport service, currently under study. «It will be one of the aspects we will take into account for the new tender because we are aware of the need to connect the industrial estate more and better. It is a part of the city, and our goal is to achieve its total integration into A Coruña’s urban landscape, with all that implies in terms of public services,» she reasoned.
Over a million euros in investment in Agrela in the current term
The improvement plan planned by the Council in the Agrela industrial estate and its surroundings is progressing these days with the construction work of the new roundabout between Fisterra Avenue and Gutenberg Street, an infrastructure that will improve traffic circulation and enhance road safety in the accesses to the industrial estate from its northern sector.
This roundabout is identical to the one already operational between Fisterra Avenue and Gambrinus Street, built with Next Generation funds and opened earlier this year.
The mayor, Inés Rey, recalled that, throughout this term, the range of interventions in Agrela also included urbanization work on streets such as Pasteur and Gambrinus, with the creation of green areas and the delineation of parking spaces, the adaptation and improvement of accessibility to bus stops, such as the one carried out on Newton Street, and also the resurfacing of over 20,000 square meters on Severo Ochoa, Galileo Galilei, and José María Rivera Corral streets, works that are currently being carried out.
