The regional government will support the marketplaces of more than 30 municipalities and 14 entities with nearly 3.2 million euros.
The Xunta de Galicia has announced that it will invest 7.785 million euros in expanding the existing offer of tourist accommodations with new spa hotels and thalassotherapy hotels, as well as for the rehabilitation or renovation of establishments of this type that are already in operation.
This measure, announced by the President of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda, in the press conference following the Galician government’s Consello, will be distributed in two lines of action.
Both calls are multiannual for the period 2025-2026 and are part of the Territorial Plan for Thermal Villages and Historic Towns, a co-financed action with NextGeneration funds from the European Union through the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism.
In this line, the head of the regional government has explained that the first call recognizes as eligible actions those in which the project aims to create a new tourist accommodation establishment with spa or thalassotherapy services.
For this, it has been detailed that they must have the declaration of the mineral, thermal, or spring condition of the waters at the time of submitting the application.
Thus, the call has a budget of 1.7 million euros for the construction, renovation, and rehabilitation of buildings and for the adaptation of infrastructure or facilities for the start-up of a new tourist accommodation establishment linked to a spa or thalassotherapy.
In the case of the second call, it will be aimed at renewable energy systems and circular economy in the new establishment. To be eligible for the grant, they must create a minimum of five direct jobs, promote links with public and private agents in the territory to have a positive effect on the tourism sector, or contribute to tourism sustainability through activity programs or awareness days.
On the other hand, the second phase, with an investment of 6.085 million euros, will focus on the implementation of projects for the rehabilitation or renovation of tourist establishments with the category of spa hotels and thalassotherapy hotels in Galicia, which at the time of the application have thermal circuits and offer services and treatments related to the use of mineral-medicinal waters or seawater.
Overall, the third line aims to promote the dissemination of the Galician thermal culture and health tourism through initiatives such as workshops, publications, and programs, among others. It is worth noting that in both calls, it is established that eligible expenses must be incurred and paid by June 30, 2026.
MORE THAN 30 MUNICIPALITIES AND 14 SUBSIDIZED ASSOCIATIONS
Among other matters, the regional official has announced that a total of 31 Galician municipalities and 14 associations and federations of marketplaces will receive aid valued at nearly 3.2 million euros to make improvements and obtain the ‘Excellent Market’ seal.
Thus, Rueda has shared the results of a report analyzed this Monday in the Xunta’s Consello on the resolution of the 2025 call for these supports, in which the total mobilized investment—almost 4 million euros—is more than triple that of last year—almost 1.1 million euros.
Among the actions to be implemented in municipalities, valued at almost 3 million euros, is the preparation or updating of the market’s situation and usage diagnosis, mentoring, preparation of technical documentation, and expenses for work management and safety and health coordination.
Among the beneficiaries are the three municipalities with markets that have this distinction, as, according to the explanation, the call includes aid for both those who want to implement the seal and those who already have it.
As for the associations and federations of marketplaces, Rueda has explained that the budget, of 171,000 euros, will be allocated to commercial revitalization actions, customer loyalty, and equipment.
