The Conselleiro of Education, Science, Universities and FP, Román Rodríguez, attended the Galician education opposition process this Saturday, aiming to «improve the student/teacher ratios and strengthen the teaching staff of Galician public education.»
He expressed this at the start of the exams in Santiago de Compostela and Lalín, two of the 16 municipalities where the exams are taking place on this Saturday.
In total, 1,664 civil servant positions are being offered, and they will start their new assignments next September, coinciding with the new school year 25/26.
The head of the Galician government’s education department visited the examination venues at IES Lamas de Abade in Santiago and IES Ramón María Aller Ulloa in Lalín this morning, accompanied by the Director-General of Centers and Human Resources, Jesús Álvarez.
The Conselleiro highlighted the Galician government’s commitment to the renewal and stabilization of the teaching staff, «reflected in these exams, where 120 positions are offered for every 100, the maximum allowed by state regulations.»
«Despite the declining birth rate, we maintain the commitment to public employment, which improves the student-teacher ratio in Galician classrooms, currently the third best in Spain with a rate of 9.9, compared to the national average of 11.3,» he stated.
As he pointed out, with the opposition starting today, the Xunta has called for 20,252 education positions since 2009, «enabling around two-thirds of teachers to join as new civil servants, change specialties, or consolidate their positions in just over 15 years.»
«Thanks to this stability commitment, Galicia has had the lowest teaching interim rate in Spain for years, well below the national average,» he recalled.
There are 20,520 applicants and 183 tribunals judging and supervising them in 16 locations across Galicia. This involves mobilizing 915 people, a total of 2,562 people when including substitute tribunal members.
