The PSdeG emphasizes that there is no «government agreement» and frames the partial dedication to a PP councilor within the «normality of municipal politics»
The Socialist Party and the Popular Party reached a political agreement on Wednesday in the City Council of Brión (A Coruña), governed by the socialist mayor Pablo Lago, which will allow, according to the Popular Party, to favor «stability» in the decision-making process for the remainder of the term.
Specifically, the agreement became known during the municipal council meeting held on Wednesday, where the six PP councilors and three of the four PS councilors – one of the councilors was absent – voted in favor of a budget amendment to include a part-time dedication of 600 euros for the Popular Party councilor Waldo Carballo, who will not be part of the government.
Sources from the PP in A Coruña consulted by Europa Press justified the agreement in order to guarantee «stability» in the governance of the Coruña City Council.
The Popular Party acknowledges a good relationship with the mayor and feels «listened to» (as evidenced, they emphasize, in previous political decisions), so they see it as a suitable step to reinforce «governability and stability for the remainder of the term for the good of the residents.»
On the other hand, sources from the PSdeG emphasize that there is no government pact as such, given that the Popular Party councilor will not be part of it. The same sources frame it «within the normality of municipal politics» to agree on a stipend of 600 euros for the part-time dedication of the Popular Party spokesperson.
Asked about it, the spokesperson for the BNG, Xosé Penas, considered that in this Wednesday’s council meeting, what had been observed in recent months was materialized, which the nationalist describes as «an unofficial agreement between the PP and the PSOE.»
As he explained, both groups «constantly voted together» and presented initiatives together. He points out that this possible agreement was initially «denied by the PSOE, which claimed it was a collaboration.» «But someone who will represent the City Council on the board of the Rosalía de Castro Foundation is within the government,» he points out.
The nationalist spokesperson asserts that in his interventions in the council, this agreement was recognized as necessary to achieve «stability.»
BNG CRITICISM
The spokesperson for the BNG, who mentioned that the PP even offered him the position of mayor by offering their votes to the Bloque — a possibility that he rejected «at all times» — criticizes this agreement between the PP and the PSOE and believes that the Galician direction of the PSdeG should speak out about a pact that he considers to cross all lines and that he maintains is not supported by «long-time PSOE members.»
Additionally, he recalls that there was an attempt at negotiation between the PSOE and the BNG to form a government agreement, a possibility that did not materialize, and of which he recalls that the PSOE claimed they were «asking for a lot.» However, Xosé Penas argues that what they demanded as the «number one point» was «transparency» in a context where they believe that the City Council, governed by the PSOE for over four decades, suffers from a problem of «lack of transparency and caciquismo.»
