The neighborhood of Birloque hosted the sixth of the participatory meetings convened by the Government of Inés Rey to discuss the future of urban buses. The session, attended by nearly 70 people, began with the mayor’s presentation, who thanked the residents for participating in the process.
The technical team of the urban transport study gave a technical presentation and presented the mobility data of district 7. Subsequently, a participatory dynamic was carried out where attendees could provide proposals on frequencies, routes, accessibility, intermodal connections, and territorial coverage.
«This district is one of the most populous but also one of the most diverse in terms of areas, as the connection in the neighborhood of Castros is not the same as in As Rañas. However, the new tender must respond to all needs equally,» explained the mayor, who was accompanied by members of her government team.
Requests and Suggestions
District 7 has approximately 60,748 inhabitants and is served by 18 urban bus lines (1, 1A, 2, 2A, 4, 5, 12, 12A, 14, 17, 20, 21, 22, 23, 23A, 24, UDC) in addition to the BUH, with a total of 107 stops.
The survey conducted during the meeting helped identify the most valued – and also the most criticized – aspects by users of urban transport in Coruña. Nearly 79% of attendees were from district 7, and 63% attended personally. More than half of the attendees stated they use the bus weekly, between 1 to 5 days.
As in previous meetings, prices were the most highly valued element, with an average of 7 points, and almost all aspects were rated above 5, with accessibility (5.9) as the second most valued aspect. This was followed by shelters (5.7), lines and stops (5.7), and intermodality (5). Service frequency (4.2) was the lowest-rated aspect, being the only one that did not reach half of the scale.
In this sense, the community identified frequency (30%) along with adaptation to massive events (15%) and intermodality (12%) as priority areas for improvement.
