Next week, the planned works by the City Council of A Coruña will begin with the aim of improving the municipal sanitation network as it passes through Juan Flórez Street, in the Ensanche neighborhood.
The intervention will take place in the stretch between the intersections with Menéndez Pelayo and Nicaragua streets, a route of just over a hundred meters where the old sewage pipes will be replaced by new collectors using the maintenance and conservation contract funded by the Council.
The Councilor for Infrastructure and Mobility, Noemí Díaz, pointed out that the government of Inés Rey has been investing in a progressive plan for years to renew municipal infrastructure, which is being developed district by district taking into account factors such as the age of the network and the specific deterioration that can be detected in some pipes.
«Our goal is to modernize the sanitation network with safer and more resistant materials against the passage of time and erosion. That is why we are replacing the old clay pipes with wider PVC ones,» explained Díaz. In addition, the councilor recalled that the roadmap being followed in these weeks also includes actions in the population center of Nostián, where the Council is investing more than 230,000 euros in expanding the existing water collection network there.
«The interventions on Juan Flórez are another step in the work plan we have established, which also includes ongoing work in the surroundings of Sardiñeira and Los Mallos,» Díaz emphasized.
Urgent work with traffic implications
The work to be carried out is urgent due to the detection of a broken collector, which requires repair, replacement, and maintenance work. Its start is scheduled for Monday, July 8, and is expected to last until August 14.
Two differentiated phases will be established that will impact traffic:
- Phase 1 (July 8-21): will affect the intersection of Juan Flórez and Menéndez Pelayo streets.
- Phase 2 (July 22 to August 14): will affect Juan Flórez Street, specifically the parking area and one lane of traffic at the height of Menéndez Pelayo.
During the execution of the works, specific signage and alternative routes will be set up, as detailed in the signage plan approved by the Mobility area.
