The Tower of Hercules will feature a new generative art intervention, «Everything flows, nothing dies,» by French artist Mathieu Le Sourd, «MAOTIK.» The piece, available from July 15 to August 31, delves into the relationship between the functionality of the lighthouse’s light as a guide and the expressive capacity in contemporary art, reflecting on the changing condition of nature. «The Government of Inés Rey continues to energize our great monument, where exhibitions and ephemeral initiatives also have a place, adding value to everything it already offers,» said Gonzalo Castro, Councillor for Culture and Tourism.
The proposal, curated by Hito Cultura & Technology, will be presented this Tuesday, July 15, at 12:00 p.m., in an event that will feature a contemporary dance spectacle at the foot of the monument by artists Marta and Remedios Cuba, with live music by Miguel Alonso Cambrón.
The installation consists of four screens, located on the floors of the Tower, on which algorithmic landscapes will be projected based on data from the movement of the sea and air currents. The visual spectacle will be accompanied by audio that evokes the sound of the ocean and will create an immersive experience for visitors, inviting reflection on the cycles of life and the relationship of human beings with nature. In the artist’s words, ‘Everything flows, nothing dies’ is «a reminder that, although forms and states may change, the essence remains.»
Tradition and avant-garde merge in this exhibition proposal. The oldest Roman lighthouse in the world, linked to the use of light as a guide in a construction thousands of years old, takes on a role of expressive element within digital arts, disciplines on the rise globally.
