El título de Liga fue uno de los días más importantes de la historia de La Coruña.

The mayor, Inés Rey, visited this morning the photographic exhibition commemorating the 25th anniversary of Deportivo’s Liga title achievement at the Obelisco. This exhibition, open to the public until May 30, kicks off the events ‘The best thing that happened to me in life. 25th anniversary of R.C. Deportivo’s league championship’, festivities organized by the platform The best thing that happened to me in life, composed of different Deportivo fan groups, with the support of the City Council.

«The Liga title was one of the most important days in the history of Coruña, a unique feat that should be celebrated in style on this 25th anniversary,» said the mayor. The photographic exhibition consists of 26 images provided by photojournalists Mero Barral and Jesús Sancho, who followed the white-and-blue team during that historic season. These images, captured on May 19 and 20, 2000, have great sentimental and symbolic value, showcasing «the jubilation and ecstasy of an entire city,» said the mayor, who was accompanied by the Councilor for Culture and Tourism, Gonzalo Castro, the Sports Councilor, Manuel Vázquez, and the exhibition’s curator, journalist Javier Guillén.

In addition, there are also 12 newspaper covers, both local and national, that exemplify the level of achievement reached by the team with that Liga. There is also a space to thank all the players, directors, coaching staff, and employees of the club from that season. «I encourage the public to remember in this exhibition those happy days for the people of Coruña and Deportivo fans around the world,» said Inés Rey.

The rest of the celebrations

The commemoration of the 25th anniversary of Deportivo’s Liga title will continue in the city in the coming days with a series of events promoted by Deportivo fan groups, with the support of the City Council. On Friday, the 23rd, a talk-screening and the presentation of the book ‘The best thing that happened to me in life’ will be held at the auditorium of the Ágora Sociocultural Center. This is a unique gathering with players, directors, club staff, and fans who will share firsthand memories and emotions from the title-winning season.

During this event, the book «The best thing that happened to me in life» will also be presented, a compilation of stories from players like Scaloni, Djalminha, Makaay, or Fran; journalists like Óscar Benito, Moncho Viña, or Nacho Carretero; and an interview with Guillermo, from the group La Mosca Tsé-Tsé, sharing how they experienced this historic milestone.

The main event, on Saturday with a performance by La Mosca Tsé-Tsé

The central event of this celebration will take place on Saturday, the 24th, starting at 12:00 pm on the esplanade of the Riazor Sports Palace, with a sports-themed day featuring octopus dishes, food trucks, traditional games for children, foosball tournament, monologues, exclusive materials… plus humor and sportsmanship will come together with Roi da Costa and the ‘Depor Madness’ show. During the day, fans will have the opportunity to take photos with the replica of the Liga Cup, provided for the occasion by the club.

The grand finale of the week will feature the stellar performance of La Mosca Tsé-Tsé (starting at 10:00 pm), performers of the spontaneous anthem of the Liga celebration: «Yo te quiero dar», which will sound in the city 25 years later. Along with them, a lineup composed entirely of Deportivo-supporting artists, proud of their belonging to the white-and-blue family: Bravú Xangai Orchestra, La Banda del Camión, Mar de Fondo, Kike Varela, and la Yaya DJ.
