The City Council is facing the final stretch of the plan to improve accessibility at 16 urban bus stops in the city, an initiative co-financed with European Next Generation funds. Following the actions already carried out in the neighborhoods of Castrillón, Os Mallos, Labañou, and Catro Camiños, progress is now being made in Monte Alto and Os Rosales.
One of the stops currently being worked on is located at Avenida de Navarra, number 173, where the new pavement is already visible. Taking advantage of the intervention and following the standards being implemented at the new stops, tactile tiles have been placed to assist the orientation of visually impaired individuals.
«A few days ago, we reopened the renovated stop at San Pedro de Mezonzo, we are finalizing the technical finishes at the Honduras street stop in Labañou, and in parallel to the progress in Monte Alto, our plan is to start work this week at stop number 87 on Manuel Azaña street, in Os Rosales,» detailed Noemí Díaz, Councilor for Infrastructure and Mobility.
Manuel Azaña won’t be the only stop to be improved in the Os Rosales neighborhood. In addition to that, two other stops on Emilio González López street will also be adapted.
«The government of Inés Rey is very committed to issues such as universal accessibility, which involves acting in areas where pedestrian surfaces were scarce or insufficient. In the case of bus stops, there were bays where improvements were necessary to facilitate the boarding and alighting of passengers, especially those with reduced mobility. Also, on the other hand, to facilitate the maneuvering of buses,» reasoned Díaz.
Tomorrow, a new participatory meeting on the future urban transport service
The councilor also reminded this Wednesday that, alongside the improvements at the bus stops, the City Council is moving forward with the participatory process to define the future urban transport service. Yesterday, a new meeting was held at the Eirís Civic Center, and tomorrow, Thursday 12, another meeting will take place in the Elviña neighborhood.
